KUALA LUMPUR – MYAirline’s abrupt ceasing of operations has affected more than 5,000 passengers from local and international destinations, after the low-cost carrier called off a total of 40 flights today.

In a statement, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) confirmed the tally, saying that one of the 40 affected flights includes one departing for Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.

MAHB said it has also deployed its resources at relevant airports within its network to extend all possible assistance to affected passengers.

“At Kuala Lumpur International Airport, resting areas have been provided at Level 3 Terminal 2 and Level 5 Anjung Tinjau Terminal 1 so that passengers can wait for their next flight comfortably.

“Relevant notices have been put up at the terminals and airport staff are on the ground to offer assistance on alternative flight options by other carriers.

“Passengers who are not yet at the airport are advised not to come and instead, they can explore alternative flight options from other carriers through the respective airlines’ websites,” the statement read.

The airport operator also confirmed that the situation at affected airports is also currently under control, and assured that it remained committed to minimising the inconvenience experienced by affected passengers.

Earlier this morning, MYAirline announced the suspension of its operations effective today. The suspension would take effect until further notice.

In a statement today, the fledgling company stated it had come to this “extremely painful decision” due to significant financial pressures, which made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation of the airline.

The carrier had also issued a statement, saying it “sincerely apologises” for failing to provide ample notice about the suspension to its passengers. – October 12, 2023
