PUTRAJAYA – A lorry believed to have lost its brakes slammed into several vehicles, including a police outrider’s motorcycle, resulting in two deaths and several injuries.

According to several postings across social media showing CCTV recordings, the 10.15am accident – which occurred along the freeway to IOI City Mall near Presint 12 – saw several cars stopped by police outriders escorting a convoy.

Moments later, a lorry appeared. It attempted to change lanes and slow down but failed to brake on time before slamming into six cars, three motorcycles, a police outrider’s motorcycle and two lorries.

According to a spokesperson from the Putrajaya’s Fire and Rescue Department, in addition to the death of the two motorcyclists, nine others also suffered injuries and were rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital and Serdang Hospital for treatment.

The spokesperson said that the department deployed a team of firefighters from the Presint 7 and Presint 14 fire stations to the location of the accident after receiving a call at 10.24am.

“The firefighters were also assisted by a Light Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Service Assistance Unit at the scene of the incident.”

It is learnt that police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by dangerous or reckless driving and have since detained the lorry driver for further investigations.
