KUALA LUMPUR – A parliamentary special select committee has, among others, recommended that the 2024 allocation for the Rahmah Sales Programme be increased.

The committee on domestic trade, entrepreneurship, cost of living and agriculture, in a statement today, said the recommendations, made after the committee meeting yesterday, are intended to help ease the burden of the cost of living of more people.

“The committee also welcomes the Rahmah Menu Incentive Card initiative for Rahmah Menu traders to buy raw materials at a cheaper price and this is believed will encourage more traders to get involved in preparing the Rahmah Menu.

“The committee also recommends that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry get more local traders to be involved in the Rahmah Sales programme,” read the statement.

At the meeting yesterday, the committee was briefed by the domestic trade ministry about the Payung Rahmah programme.

The meeting was attended by the ministry’s deputy minister, Fuziah Salleh, and chairman of the select committee, Cha Kee Chin (Rasah-PH).

Also present were members of the committee – comprising parliamentarians Edwin Banta, Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, Manndzri Nasib, Tan Kar Hing, Hassan Abdul Karim, Datuk Rosol Wahid and Datuk Muslimin Yahaya – as well as representatives from the ministry.

The committee also expressed its appreciation to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was  domestic trade minister, for introducing the Payung Rahmah Programme and hoped that the programme would continue in the future.
