KUALA LUMPUR – The two public hospitals providing treatment to victims of yesterday’s van crash in Jalan Teluk Kumbar-Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau have been instructed to help them in their recovery.

State Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi said instructions have been given to the Balik Pulau Hospital and Penang Hospital to facilitate and assist those involved in the accident.

“Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, and their friends and family of those involved in an accident at Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau, last night.

“I would like to urge the public not to circulate the photos of the accident site as a sign of respect to those involved,” he posted on his Facebook page.

Last night, a van carrying 10 tourists from Singapore and a local driver skidded and fell into a 6m-deep ravine in Balik Pulau, killing one woman.

South West district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the victims have yet to be identified but they are believed to be an elderly group who are on holiday in Penang.

“An autopsy will be done on the deceased on Monday. The 10 other injured victims were sent to Penang Hospital and Balik Pulau Hospital for treatment.”

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. – September 25, 2023
