You’re suspended: DAP condemns member over provocative speech

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke, however, says the old clip is being used during campaign season to disrupt the PH-BN momentum

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP has immediately suspended an ordinary member and its disciplinary board to take further action after a contentious video was widely shared on social media.

This came after a DAP member was caught on video giving a provocative speech laced with obscenities at a party event in June.

While party leadership has condemned the video content, secretary-general Anthony Loke claimed that the clip was purposely shared during election campaign season to disrupt the momentum gained by the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance.

“Following an internal investigation, it was found that the said person is an ordinary member and does not represent the leadership.

“I have ordered that his membership be suspended immediately while the disciplinary board will take further action.

“I call on all Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional supporters not to be influenced by the video clip which does not at all represent DAP’s morals and stance,” he said in a statement last night.

The contentious clip showed a man berating “Parti Serban” in Cantonese, accusing it of fanning race and religious issues. – August 11, 2023
