Photo of the day: Under the overpass, homelessness persists in the city

8:25 PM MYT

A houseless man sleeps soundly under an overpass near Jalan Peel, Kuala Lumpur – using a makeshift shelter adorned with the Jalur Gemilang.

Despite the availability of several government-provided homeless transit centres, many individuals still resort to creating temporary shelters on the streets and beneath bridges.

This situation highlights ongoing safety concerns, sanitation issues, and impacts on the city’s image and aesthetics.

Efforts to address homelessness must balance providing immediate relief and implementing long-term solutions to ensure the welfare and dignity of all residents. – June 20, 2024
