KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM30 million to promote Malaysia as a hub for the development of esports, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2024 today.

Anwar said the funds will be used to encourage international game developers to invest in Malaysia’s esports industry.

“We want to encourage them to invest in Malaysia to develop their digital products with local talent.”

The RM30 million is a significant increase from the RM13 million allocated previously.

However, the allocation does not include the development of competitive esports in the country.

Previously, esports had received an allocation of RM10 million in 2019, RM20 million (2020), RM15 million (2021), RM20 million (2022) and RM13 million (2023). – October 13, 2023
