Malaysian shuttlers bow out: Korea Masters challenge ends for national pairs

Both Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai eliminated in semifinals

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s challenge at the Korea Masters came to an end today when both mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai were eliminated in the semifinals.

The Malaysians had a mountain to climb, as they needed to beat the tournament’s first and second seeds in order to advance to the final tomorrow in Gwangju.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei took on the home pair and tournament first seeds Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yoo-jung.

The world champions swiftly defeated the Road to Gold athletes 21-14, 21-17 in 39 minutes.

Meanwhile, Soon Huat-Shevon Lai were defeated by China’s second-seeded Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin. The world number 14 Malaysians succumbed to their number six-ranked opponents 21-19, 21-15 in 34 minutes.

Seung-jae-Yoo-jung and Zhenbang-Yaxin will face off to determine the champions of the Super 300 event in the final tomorrow. – November 11, 2023
