KUCHING – Ensuring the seamless success of the 2024 Sukma, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has underscored the vital need for close cooperation between Sarawak and the federal government.

In her address at the opening ceremony of the Sukan Perpaduan event today, Hannah stressed the importance of increased engagement sessions between both parties to guarantee a well-executed sporting event, with a particular focus on athlete welfare.

“Sarawak and the federal government need to hold more meetings to ensure that next year’s Sukma is the best for our athletes,” she said.

Sarawak, selected as the host for the 21st edition of the Games scheduled for August 17-24 next year, has previously hosted the nation’s largest sports festival in 1990 and 2016.

Adding to the positive outlook, Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah provided insights into the progress of preparations for Sukma 2024.

He noted that the Sarawak government has allocated RM124 million for the refurbishment of sports facilities in the state.

Additionally, a substantial sum of RM80 million has been earmarked by the state government to support the preparation of Sarawak athletes. – November 18, 2023
