KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Disciplinary Committee fined Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) a total of RM30,000 today after it was found guilty of breaching Article 68 of the FAM Disciplinary Code.

The offence in question stems from a failure to fulfil an organisational obligation, which resulted in a serious injury to a Kuala Lumpur City FC fan following a beatdown by an unknown individual during the FA Cup final between JDT and KL City FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on July 22.

The punishment is a RM15,000 fine and the club has been given a stern warning of a heavier punishment if the offence is repeated.

Several videos of fans allegedly being beaten by military personnel and several men dressed in civilian clothing went viral on social media during the final.

In one of the videos, a man is shown on the ground while several others kick him repeatedly.

The 13-second video was shot from outside the stadium, behind the spectator seating area.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Rahmat Ariffin then confirmed that a 30-year-old lodged a police report on July 23 at the Sg Besi police station in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, in their second offence, JDT was found guilty of again violating Article 68 by failing to fulfil their organisational obligation, allowing the club’s fans to mock and provoke opposition supporters.

JDT’s fans then surrounded, chased, and attacked fans of the opposition before they could board their bus during the Malaysia Premier Futsal League match between JDT and Selangor MAC at the Bandaraya Stadium in Pasir Gudang on May 27.

The punishment is a RM15,000 fine, and the club has been given a stern warning and heavier punishment if the offence is repeated.

However, both the decisions can be appealed. – November 20, 2023
