KUALA LUMPUR – The deputy president of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), Mazlan Md Jail, has been selected as the cycling body’s acting president until the term ends in 2026.

The matter was decided in an MNCF executive committee meeting in Melaka today to fill the vacancy left by the previous president, Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab, who died on November 28.

Abu Samah retained his seat in the new committee election for the 2023-2026 term in February, which also saw Mazlan appointed deputy president after defeating his challenger from Negri Sembilan, Yunus Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, MNCF vice-president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill was chosen to helm the post vacated by Mazlan, as he will be acting deputy president until the term ends in 2026.

“All other posts held by the MNCF exco currently remain status quo,” according to a post on Amarjit’s Facebook.

Former youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin is also on the committee as a vice-president having been elected in February.

Khairy, a Negri Sembilan Cycling Association president, was elected from 10 candidates during the February election. – December 9, 2023
