KUALA LUMPUR – In anticipation of the Asian Cup, the Youth and Sports Ministry is offering big-screen facilities for public viewing of all three Harimau Malaya matches set to take place in Qatar.
Minister Hannah Yeoh, in a video shared with the media, today said the Bukit Jalil National Stadium would be opened to all Malaysia supporters for free public viewing during the tournament.
The national football team arrived in Doha on Monday, with the hope of making at least the last 16, a target set by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
“Congratulations to the Harimau Malaya squad for achieving a significant milestone after more than 40 years, a feat that all Malaysians are very proud of,” said Hannah.
“Make sure you come out and support the national team.
“I would also like to congratulate FAM and head coach Kim Pan-gon for your efforts in guiding Harimau Malaya to this stage.”
The Asian Cup is scheduled to kick off in Qatar on January 12.
Malaysia, marking the end of a 42-year wait to qualify on merit, are drawn in Group E and will face Jordan on January 15 (early January 16 in Malaysia), Bahrain on January 20 and two-time champions South Korea on January 25.
The National Stadium will host big-screen viewings on January 16 at 1.30am for the match against Jordan, January 20 at 10.30pm for the clash with Bahrain and January 25 at 7.30pm for the encounter with South Korea.
In addition to the public viewings, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed on Wednesday that Malaysian football enthusiasts would have the opportunity to watch the live telecast of all 51 matches in the tournament on RTM. – January 5, 2023
