KUALA LUMPUR – The Anak Sarawak International Half Marathon this year will welcome a total of 7,000 participants from 12 countries and will be held in Kuala Lumpur on February 3.

Runners from the United States, Spain, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia are expected to join the night run organised by the non-governmental organisation Sarawak Volunteers.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the NGO’s patron, said the event was organised to encourage a healthy lifestyle among the public and also to promote Kuala Lumpur as a marathon destination.

“With this half marathon, we hope to attract tourists, especially those interested in running events.

“If the support for this event is encouraging, we hope this is the beginning and we aim to continue this event every year,” said Fadillah.

This is the second edition as the first event held in 2022 was called the AS LLM Dash Penchala Link Tunnel Night Run.

This year’s event is also held in conjunction with Federal Territories Day to celebrate the diversity in Kuala Lumpur.

There will be three categories for various levels of runners: 6km, 11km and 21km. There will be a total of RM60,000 up for grabs for all categories.

The event will start at 7pm on February 3 and end at 1am on February 4. – January 24, 2024
