PUFC deny withdrawing from Super League amid financial rumours

Perlis United FC CEO refutes claims, emphasises no rift with Perlis Menteri Besar

KANGAR — Perlis United FC (PUFC) have refuted statements claiming that the football club is withdrawing from competing in the Super League this season due to financial reasons.

PUFC chief executive officer, Rozailmee Zulkeply also asserted that they have no enmity with the Perlis Menteri Besar, Mohd Shukri Ramli.

“We at PUFC deny any such statements. And we want to emphasise that we have no hostility towards YAB Menteri Besar.

“This news is only intended to sensationalise their news portal. If true, please reveal who is the internal source referred to,” he said.

He said this in his statement uploaded on his Facebook page today along with a news article titled ‘Perlis United tak jadi sertai Liga Super? (Perlis United won’t join the Super League?) by a news portal.

The news portal report claimed that Perlis United opted to do a U-turn and withdraw from participating in the Super League.

They had sent a letter to the Malaysian Football League (MFL) expressing their intention to withdraw from being a Super League club due to financial reasons.

The news portal report also alleged that Perlis United were reported to have funds amounting to RM25 million to compete in the Super League before, but that sum seemed to be nonexistent due to sponsorship withdrawals one by one.

The report also claimed that it stemmed from a misunderstanding due to a letter of support issued by Mohd Shukri, expressing support for the club’s participation in the Super League.

The portal reported that the support was only limited to moral encouragement and did not entail financial support from the state government.

Meanwhile, Rozailmee, in another post on his Facebook page, informed that if Perlis United were to withdraw, they would make an official statement, but at this time, they are still trying.

“If anyone wants to help, please do so, and if not, please pray for the best,” he said. — March 14, 2024
