KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Razlan Razali’s resignation as president of the Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) has been accepted by its committee.

KLCA deputy president Firdaus Arshad said the matter was brought up during the state cycling body’s committee meeting today.

“We had a few things that we needed to address today in the meeting.

“There were two letters, one from the Federal Territories Sports Council asking for clarification on a few issues. We will reply to that promptly and I don’t see any issues with that.

“The second letter is Razlan’s resignation. There were nine committee members present today, eight voted to accept the letter and one rejected his resignation.

“So by majority decision, Razlan is no longer affiliated with KLCA,” said Firdaus when contacted by Scoop.

Firdaus will assume the role of acting president.

When Razlan was appointed as president last month he was given the choice of nominating three new committee members of his choice.

Firdaus added that all three names put forward by Razlan to join the committee were unanimously rejected.

Razlan won the post of KLCA president uncontested on February 25, but resigned from his post barely a month in.

It was understood that Razlan met with KLCA’s young riders, parents and former riders as well as representatives from the Federal Territories Sports Council (FTSC).

During the meeting, a few parents alleged that issues involving racism, breach of trust and misuse of funds from the FTSC had occurred within the association in recent years.

A day later Razlan called a committee meeting to discuss the allegations but it got heated which led to him handing in his resignation on March 16. — March 24, 2024
