KUALA LUMPUR – The National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) brought joy to 50 former national athletes today through the Ramadan Al-Mubarak donation handover programme.

Yakeb chairman Datuk Noorul Ariffin Abdul Majeed expressed delight at the collaboration with the Malaysian Muslim Business Council (DPMUM), resulting in donations totalling RM10,000.

Essential items were also presented to the athletes at the foundation’s headquarters in Bukit Kiara.

The recipient selection was based on criteria set by the sponsor, ensuring that those most in need received assistance.

“I am heartened to see the support from individuals and organisations in reaching out to our former athletes. Yakeb remains committed to their well-being and listens to their needs,” said Noorul.

Among the beneficiaries was former national cyclist Rosman Alwi, who represented Malaysia in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988.

“On behalf of all former athletes, I extend my gratitude to Yakeb and DPMUM for their generous support.

“This contribution, though small, greatly assists us in meeting our daily needs,” said Rosman.

This collaboration between Yakeb and DPMUM is not new, as they previously worked together in 2022 to provide essential food baskets to 50 national athletes.

Looking ahead, Yakeb plans to organise three more events to assist former national athletes, including a gathering with the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah. – March 26, 2024
