KUALA LUMPUR – Will this be a new beginning for Sean Selvaraj with Sri Pahang FC?

Once lauded as Malaysian football’s brightest prospect, Sean Selvaraj has navigated a career eclipsed by constant challenges, constantly vying for his place among seasoned teammates.

The 27-year-old winger, who made a total of 82 appearances for both Negeri Sembilan FC and Selangor FC, recently joined the Elephants on a one-year deal with hopes of regaining his stalwart status.

Sean, who has also represented the national under-23 team from 2016 to 2019, saw a heavy decline in his number of appearances for Negeri Sembilan last season, playing only 14 matches under K. Devan.

Speaking to Scoop, Sri Pahang FC chief executive officer Datuk Mohammed Suffian Awang said that Sean was the player the club had aspired to secure for its long-term plan.

He assured that the club will provide an ideal platform for Sean to evolve into a legendary player for Sri Pahang FC in the coming years.

“We have been observing Sean for a very long time, and in my opinion, this is the perfect club that will suit his gameplay. He’s still young and full of potential, and our head coach, Fandi Ahmad, has pledged to bring out the best in him.

“At Sri Pahang FC, we will ensure that he becomes the main player in the team, especially for the number nine and ten roles. We will not treat him like he was treated by his previous clubs.

“Sean is the kind of player who should not be benched or sidelined. He’s now in his prime, and he has so much in his locker that he can contribute to the team if given the opportunity to play. As long as Sean is here, we will ensure that we provide him with the game time he deserves.

“The other players in the club have also welcomed him with open arms during our current preseason training, and they are excited to see what Sean can bring to the team,” Suffian said when contacted.

Aside from Sean, Sri Pahang FC has been on a player signing spree with the acquisitions of Adam Nor Azlin, Serbian centre-back Aleksandar Cvetkovic, Kuvondik Ruziev (Uzbekistan), and Manuel Hidalgo from Argentina.

Last season, Pahang finished fifth in the Super League with 46 points. – April 5, 2024
