KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong has been dropped from Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad.

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky confirmed this to reporters when met at Akademi Badminton Malaysia here today.

“It is not possible for him to take part due to his current condition.

“We came to this decision after discussing it with the whole coaching team.

National men’s doubles player Choong Hon Jian will take Tze Yong’s place in the squad.

“The decision to bring Hon Jian in was based on discussions with the doubles and singles coaches. I then brought it up to ABM management and they agreed to it.

“We looked at the possibilities that can happen (during the Thomas Cup) and this is what the team needs.

“We have an abundance of talent in the doubles so this is why Hoon Jian has been brought in.

“He has joined the Thomas and Uber Cup training camp,” added Rexy.

Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad now will consist of six men’s doubles players – Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal Nazri – and four singles – independent shuttlers Lee Zii Jia, Cheam June Wei, Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh. – April 19, 2024
