KUALA LUMPUR – Police have officially confirmed receiving reports regarding a potential threat of an acid attack targeting club officials at Selangor FC.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Jaafar confirmed the report to Scoop.

“Yes, I can confirm that two individuals lodged a police report. However, I’m unable to divulge more details at the moment but I can say they lodged reports over security concerns,” he said when contacted.

Sources indicate that among those at risk is the club’s chief executive Johan Kamal Hamidon, who allegedly received a threatening call from an unidentified individual.

The atmosphere in Malaysian football is tense following two incidents involving national players within a week.

It began with Terengganu FC’s Akhyar Rashid being robbed and assaulted on May 3, followed by the shocking acid attack on Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim two days later.

Faisal’s condition is grave, having suffered fourth-degree burns.

He underwent surgery at a hospital in Shah Alam and is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

According to the Health Ministry’s MyHEALTH portal, fourth-degree burns involve complete skin thickness, as well as the muscle and bone, often leading to nerve damage and total loss of sensation. – May 6, 2024
