KUALA LUMPUR – The recent public outcry over Malaysia’s official kit for the Paris Olympics has ignited a fervent debate across the nation.

Many Malaysians expressed disappointment with the design, citing its lacklustre appeal and expressing concerns that it might be embarrassing for the country’s Olympic athletes.

Amid the controversy, there are strong rumours within the sports industry that the Malaysian contingent’s opening ceremony uniform would be designed by acclaimed local fashion house Rizman Ruzaini.

At the same time, the brand was one of the suggestions given by netizens during the whole Olympic outfit saga.

Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Jamil, the talented minds behind the label, have become synonymous with high-profile clients in the entertainment industry.

A recent high-profile design of the fashion label was showcased by Malaysian squash legend Datuk Nicol David at the 25th Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid this April.

David wore an elegant gown featuring a floor-length silhouette, intricate embroidery and beadwork that accentuated her athletic physique.

“So proud to be dressed by Malaysian stars (from) Rizman Ruzaini,” she had posted on social media, adding that many attendees admired her dress.

Rizman Ruzaini’s portfolio includes designs for some of Malaysia’s top celebrities like Neelofa, Fazura and Rozita Che Wan.

The duo have also dressed international stars such as supermodel Naomi Campbell, who wore their creation at Dubai Fashion Week and again at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah. – July 1, 2024
