KUALA LUMPUR – Nabil Iman Sharizan Azrol and Najwa Zara Mohd Fakhrur Razi have emerged as champions for the men’s and women’s Under-19 categories of the CIMB National Junior Circuit 2nd Leg 2024 at Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) Kompleks Astaka MBPJ, Petaling Jaya, today.
Nabil Iman, representing Perlis, took 32 minutes to beat Erwin Kros Christopher of Kuala Lumpur 12-10, 11-9, 11-4, avenging his loss in Erwin’s hands in the final of the South East Asian Junior Squash Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, last May.
“I played my best because during training I would usually lose to him (Erwin). So, I pushed myself to win and that became my goal.
“During the National Junior Circuit 1st Leg in Penang last May, I could only place second when I lost to Ivan Chang, so this win means a lot to me,” he said in a statement issued by SRAM today.
Meanwhile, Najwa Zara of Kuala Lumpur beat Dayana Qistina Anuar of Kedah 11-4, 6-11,11-8, 11-9 in 25 minutes.
“My opponent played rather well and put up a tough fight. But I’m happy I could beat her in the final today,” she said.
Najwa Zara could only manage second place in the first leg of this championship when she lost to Harleein Tan of Negeri Sembilan in the final. – July 21, 2024
