KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, the president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), has been officially elected as vice president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for Southeast Asia at the general assembly held today in New Delhi, India.
Norza, who recently stepped down as president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), was the sole candidate for the position and secured the appointment unopposed.
“On behalf of the entire OCM family, we would like to convey our deepest congratulations to Tan Sri Norza for his election as vice president of the OCA.
“His election is a clear testament to his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to the advancement of the Olympic Movement – not only in Malaysia but across the entire Asian continent,” stated OCM deputy president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin today.
This appointment is a historic milestone, as Norza becomes only the second Malaysian to hold this prestigious position, following the late Tan Sri Hamzah Abu Samah who served in 1982.
The OCA general assembly also held elections for the 2024-2028 executive board, selecting a president, five vice presidents representing different zones, five members from each zone of the opposite gender to their respective vice presidents, and two representatives from the OCA Athletes Committee. – September 8, 2024
