KUALA LUMPUR — After an eight-month search, authorities have finally located Datuk Seri Feardaus Khairuddin, the former owner of Kuantan FA and Marcerra United, who was sentenced by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in January.
Speaking to Scoop, Suhail Rahimi Abdul Razak, a lawyer from Zarkasya & Co, confirmed the arrest, saying Feardaus was apprehended this morning while attending a separate hearing at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
Suhail, who represents 47 officers and players from the teams, added that the Kuala Lumpur High Court had ordered Feardaus on January 29 to settle the remaining RM1.5 million of a total agreed sum of RM3 million.
However, the court granted an extension until February 9, but Feardaus failed to fulfil the payment, violating the court order, which led to an arrest warrant being issued for seven days’ imprisonment.
It is understood that Feardaus has now been detained and taken to Kajang Prison to serve his sentence.
“On the day the court issued the order, he (Feardaus) appealed to return home to gather the money to pay off the claims. But in reality, he fled. Since February, we’ve been searching for him at his home and office, but he was on the run.
“Coincidentally, he appeared on TV, linked to another crime involving a highway project fraud, so I gathered details on that case.
“Today, he was attending the Sessions Court for that case, and I sought the assistance of the police to arrest him there,” said Suhail.
If Feardaus continues to fail in settling the claims, Suhail will escalate the case to a criminal offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
“To me, this case won’t become complicated, even if he continues to refuse to pay. We will propose that it be treated as a criminal matter, which could lead to a harsher penalty for him,” he added.
For the record, this is the first time an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with outstanding salary issues within the Malaysian League. — October 16, 2024
