KUALA LUMPUR — Former Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin is likely to return to FAM as honorary president to fulfil his commitments with FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Hamidin, a FIFA Council member for 2023-2027, has been instrumental in enhancing FAM’s ties with FIFA and the AFC, securing annual funding of RM30 million to RM40 million for football development in Malaysia.
According to an executive member of FAM, current president Datuk Joehari Mohd Ayub seeks Hamidin’s expertise for ongoing projects, including the F:30 programme and the National Training Centre.
“The chances are very high for Hamidin to make a comeback to FAM.
“FAM will likely create a special post for him, similar to what the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) did for Tan Sri Norza Zakaria last year.
“While FAM has not officially discussed creating the honorary position, it is understood that FAM is open to Hamidin’s involvement due to his extensive experience.
“His acceptance of the offer remains uncertain as he is currently engaged in other commitments, including his role with the Olympic Council of Malaysia,” the exco member said on the condition of anonymity.
Hamidin recently represented the FAM alongside the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, to form a partnership with CARSOME, which is now the official automotive partner of FAM.
On another note, it is understood that FAM has not yet initiated any talks regarding the establishment of an honorary president position for Hamidin.
FAM’s secretary-general, Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, mentioned that while this topic hasn’t been discussed, FAM is always open to suggestions and values Hamidin’s extensive experience in enhancing the organization in various areas. – April 1, 2025
