KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Cub Prix Championship (MCPC) seeks to serve as a platform for nurturing young motorcycle racers and providing them with opportunities to enter the automotive industry.
At a press conference today marking the launch of this year’s MCPC, Ron Hogg, the promotions director of Safe Aim Mutual (SAM), voiced his disappointment over the lack of proper opportunities for young racers to display their skills. He noted that this issue has contributed to a number of them leaving the sport in recent years.
Ron mentioned that the organising committee for this championship aims to cultivate more racers like Kasma Daniel in the years ahead. Kasma is a professional motorcycle racer who is currently taking part in the Superbike 1000 category of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).
At 24 years old, he began his racing career in the 2017 Moto3 season as a wildcard participant in the Malaysian Grand Prix. That same year, he also trained at the VR46 Rider Academy Master Camp with Valentino Rossi in Italy.
“If we look at the numbers, fewer racers are making it to the top levels of competition, and we aim to reverse this trend by using our platform to develop and support new talent.
“We need to look into the matter seriously. There are many talented individuals out there who just want the opportunity to race. We don’t want their dreams to go to waste.
“There is a demand in motorcycle racing, but we are yet to fully tap into it. In recent years, we’ve also had several former motorcycle racers return and offer their expertise to help develop young talent – and we truly appreciate that.
“We have a long-term plan, and we aim to find and develop more riders like Kasma in the near future. On top of that, we are collaborating with several automotive companies to establish more motorcycle clubs so that more young racers can train and progress into proper professionals.
“At the same time, ex-racers can also get involved in these clubs to mentor and mold the next generation,” said Ron when met at the LYL International Karting Circuit in Sg Long earlier today.
The 2025 season will consist of 10 rounds at various locations, such as SPC, Tangkak Circuit, Terengganu Motor Circuit, and the new LYL International Karting Circuit. The opening event of the season is set for April 19 to 20 at SPC, and Round 3 will take place at the LYL International Karting Circuit in mid-June. – April 10, 2025
