KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested seven individuals believed to have instigated a brawl at the Axiata Arena during a live concert by rock icon Datuk Amy Search, as well as at the government-organised Madani Carnival, both held within close proximity to the event.
It is understood that the group, part of a 30-man gang known as the “All Blacks”, entered the food vendor area at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, where the Malaysia Cup final between Sri Pahang FC and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) is currently taking place.
The group is said to have infiltrated the football crowd, teasing both sets of fans and deliberately pushing and provoking people in an attempt to incite a fight.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 pm, less than two hours before the match was scheduled to kick off.
It escalated into a brawl involving ‘kung fu-style’ punching and kicking, with objects such as cones, flares, and bottles being thrown among the gang members and some football fans.
Speaking to Scoop, Police Inspector Abdul Rashid Hassan, who was on duty at Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) and present at the scene, stated that investigations into the gang’s motives are underway.
“We have arrested seven individuals from the 30-man group involved in the fight today. We are working to determine their motives and why they deliberately caused chaos in the area.
“Some of them were even wearing JDT scarves, and it appears they intentionally came to stir up trouble and tarnish the reputation of the events happening in the vicinity.
“The remaining 23 members of the gang have been chased out, and we will ensure that the remaining events proceed peacefully this evening,” said Abdul Rashid, speaking from Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Earlier, Cheras Police Chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan had stated that the police would take strict action against any groups or individuals attempting to cause disruption or provoke others during or after the match.
He also warned that those found guilty of committing offences could be charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, or Section 160 for affray.
A crowd of 80,000 spectators is expected at the Malaysia Cup final this evening. — April 26, 2025
