Man Utd to bring full first-team squad on post-season tour of Malaysia, Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR — Manchester United will take all of their first-team squad members on their post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong, head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed in a statement.

The Red Devils will face an Asean All Stars side at Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Jalil National Stadium on May 28, before flying to Hong Kong for a second match on May 30.

The trip marks United’s first post-season tour in the modern era and is aimed at reconnecting with their global fanbase after a disappointing campaign.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against West Ham United, Amorim said the entire senior squad, academy prospects, and staff will be on board for the Asian leg of the tour.

“I was consulted,” he told reporters. “We cannot say nothing after this season, so we need to help the club because the club wins some more money.

“We are going to connect with our fans around the world and that is important, especially when we lose and we disappoint our supporters during this tough season. So, I think it is the least we can do.

“And we are going to take all the team, the young kids also, and we’ll have the staff there. We had a lot of changes in the staff so we’re trying to build something as a family.”

Asked directly whether the senior players will be involved, Amorim replied: “Yes, yes.”

United’s final fixture of the 2024/25 Premier League season is against Aston Villa on May 25, after which they will travel directly to Malaysia.

The tour follows key domestic fixtures against West Ham, Chelsea, and a Europa League final showdown with Tottenham on May 21.

Manchester United last played in Malaysia in 2009, when they beat the Malaysian XI twice at Bukit Jalil during their pre-season tour.

Club CEO Omar Berrada, announcing the tour in April, highlighted the importance of engaging with the club’s international supporters and strengthening commercial ties in the region.

“We appreciate the amazing level of support that Manchester United enjoys around the world,” said Berrada.

“Importantly, tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue, which helps make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch.”

Following the Hong Kong leg, United will resume their summer schedule with a friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19 before joining the Premier League Summer Series in the United States, where they will face West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton. — May 10, 2025
