ZURICH — FIFA announced on Friday that Qatar will once again host the final three matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup, set to take place in December 2025. This marks the second consecutive year that Qatar will stage the closing fixtures of the tournament.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), FIFA confirmed in a statement that the tournament will commence on September 14, with Egypt’s Pyramids FC, the CAF Champions League winners, taking on Auckland City FC, champions of Oceania.

The winner of that opening match will go on to face Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli SC on September 23 at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah. The victor will then progress to the final stage of the competition, to be held in Qatar.

FIFA stated that the final phase will begin on December 10 with a Copa Americas clash between Mexico’s Cruz Azul, the CONCACAF champions, and the yet-to-be-determined champions of South America.

The second match, scheduled for December 13, will serve as the semi-final, featuring the winner of the Cruz Azul match against the winner of the earlier tie between Al Ahli and either Pyramids FC or Auckland City.

The tournament will culminate with the Confederations Cup final on 17 December, when European champions Paris Saint-Germain will face the winner of the semi-final.

Qatar also hosted the final three matches of the previous edition in 2024, under the competition’s revised format.

Real Madrid claimed the title that year with a 3-0 victory over Mexico’s Pachuca at Lusail Stadium. — June 28, 2025
