KUALA LUMPUR — The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) has agreed to change its name to the Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia, while retaining its existing Malay acronym (PSM).
Its president, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, said the decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) yesterday, after a motion to amend the association’s constitution received support from more than two-thirds of the delegates.
He added, however, that the name change will only take effect once the constitutional amendments are approved by the Sports Commissioner.
“All amendments to the constitution will only come into effect after they receive the Sports Commissioner’s approval. We will submit the request soon. Until then, we are not permitted to use the new name,” he said when met after the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.
Sumali added that the change was intended to align the association’s name with other national sports bodies that use the term ‘federation’.
“This isn’t something entirely new — it has been discussed previously, and many have agreed that it better reflects our role as the governing body for sepak takraw in Malaysia,” he said.
Meanwhile, the results of the office-bearer elections for the 2025–2028 term were also announced during the AGM.
Sumali retained the presidency unopposed, while Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected deputy president. The three vice-president posts went to Datuk Abu Jimi Samat (51 votes), Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (48 votes), and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah (44 votes). — June 29, 2025
