KUALA LUMPUR – Liverpool forward Diogo Jota died after he was involved in a car crash in Northern Spain today.

It was understood that the 28-year-old Portuguese was travelling with his younger brother Andre, 26, when the crash occurred on the A-52 in the province of Zamora. The road in Spain is a key route taken by drivers leaving northern Portugal.

Jota, who tied the knot on June 28, played a key role in helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title last season, in addition to winning the FA Cup and League Cup with the team.

He joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and has netted 65 goals in 182 matches across all competitions.
