KUALA NERUS – The family of the late Siti Noralyaa Mat Marzuki, a former Terengganu Sukma weightlifter who passed away from breast cancer last Saturday, has received support through the Survivors’ Pension from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

Perkeso Terengganu director Suhara Mustaffa said the benefit, amounting to a total of RM897 a month, will be distributed to the late athlete’s next of kin — including her parents and four younger siblings aged between eight and 16 — starting next month.

In addition, the family was given a RM3,000 funeral management allowance under Perkeso’s social protection scheme.

“Over the past two years, Perkeso has supported 25 athletes undergoing rehabilitation, including two Terengganu FC footballers currently receiving treatment at the Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre,” Suhara said during a visit to the family’s home in Taman Batin Perdana today.

“Perkeso remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and social protection of all Terengganu athletes. Many have already received benefits under our scheme.”

Also present were Terengganu Youth, Sports and NGOs Committee chair Hishamuddin Abdul Karim and Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT) director Ahmad Shahrizal Yahaya.

Siti Noralyaa’s mother, Rusmailaili Samsuri, 43, said the assistance would help ease the burden on the grieving family.

She said her late daughter, the eldest of five siblings, had been a key contributor to household expenses and supported her younger siblings’ education.

“After leaving MSNT, she worked at a petrol station to help out, as my husband works as a bread delivery driver and I’m a full-time homemaker,” Rusmailaili said.

“She was a good daughter. Her salary was always used to buy essentials and school supplies for her brothers and sisters.”

Rusmailaili added that Siti Noralyaa passed away on Saturday evening at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) after being bedridden for a month. — July 16, 2025
