KUALA LUMPUR – Local racers who excel in specific disciplines at the Malaysia Festival of Speed (MFOS), taking place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from August 15 to 17, may have the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC) in Sri Lanka this September.

The President of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, said that the second edition of MFOS could implement this initiative as part of efforts to enhance the development of motorsports at the grassroots level.

“Our goal is to encourage more racers to participate in various racing disciplines and to foster greater competition within each category in the future.

“That is what matters most to me — we aim to cultivate a talent pool in Malaysia that can compete with international drivers and race anywhere,” he said at a press conference today.

The disciplines included are karting, sprint, karting slalom, rally, car gymkhana, and e-sports.

Mokhzani also noted that the association is dedicated to strengthening Malaysia’s motorsports ecosystem, with plans to make the festival an annual regional event in the long run. – July 18, 2025
