FIFA shuts down rumours of KL office move to Jakarta

World football body confirms its Kuala Lumpur hub remains operational, dismissing claims of relocation to Indonesia as baseless

KUALA LUMPUR – FIFA has dismissed speculation that it is relocating its regional office from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, confirming that its operations in Malaysia remain fully intact.

A source from the world football governing body said the FIFA office at KL Eco City continues to operate as usual, dismissing widespread rumours of an imminent move.

“The FIFA office in KL remains operational as usual and will not be moved to Jakarta. The claim is baseless,” the source told Scoop.

The source also reiterated Malaysia’s importance as a strategic hub for FIFA in Southeast Asia.

“KL has been a cornerstone for our regional operations, and there are no plans to change that,” the source added.

Established in early 2018, the Kuala Lumpur office serves as FIFA’s regional base for Asia and Oceania under the FIFA Forward Programme.

Led by Sanjeevan Balasingam, the office oversees crucial areas of football development — including infrastructure planning, grassroots initiatives, contract management, and the monitoring of FIFA-funded projects across the region.

Recent online reports had alleged that FIFA would close its offices in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore by the end of August and relocate to a new regional headquarters in Indonesia by September 2025.

The reports further suggested that Indonesia’s growing prominence in global football, coupled with attractive incentives, was driving the purported shift. – July 21, 2025
