ALOR GAJAH — The Melaka government is committing RM90,000 this year to support and develop sports programmes for persons with disabilities, under its ‘Perhebat OKU 2025’ initiative.
State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Committee chairman Datuk V.P. Shanmugam said the allocation will be channelled into seven key programmes aimed at nurturing talent and expanding access to sports within the disabled community.
“The seven initiatives include the Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) New Talent Programme (RM14,500); Sports Tournament Participation Programme (RM11,900); Melaka Para Sukma Contingent Training Centre Programme (RM30,000); and the Disabled Sports Carnival Organisation (RM8,600),” he said.
Other initiatives include the Special Olympics Programme (Athletics) (RM5,000); the Melaka Para Sukma Contingent Camp Organisation (RM15,000); and the Tenpin Bowling Programme for the hearing impaired (RM5,000).
Shanmugam was speaking to reporters at the Alor Gajah Rakan Muda Complex today.
Separately, he announced that the Melaka Chief Minister’s Cup veterans football championships will feature 12 teams comprising players aged 40 and above. — July 27, 2025
