KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has expelled the Perlis Football Association (PFA) as an affiliate member, ending months of warnings and a suspension imposed last year.
Acting FAM president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi confirmed the decision was reached at the national body’s executive committee meeting in Kelana Jaya today, after PFA failed to resolve its problems within the six-month deadline given.
“The six-month period is over. So today the committee decided to sack PFA from being an affiliate member of FAM,” he told reporters, Bernama reported.
The expulsion means PFA can no longer take part in or represent any football activities under FAM nationwide. However, the move does not affect Perlis GSA FC, which plays in the semi-professional Liga A1 and operates independently of the state body.
FAM had suspended PFA in December 2024 until it settled outstanding wages and compensation owed to its former football director, Matt Holland, as ordered by FIFA in 2019.
Yusoff stressed that the door remains open for PFA to rejoin FAM, but only after fully addressing its obligations.
Meanwhile, the meeting also saw a reshuffle of FAM’s leadership structure. Deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundaram will take over from Yusoff as chairman of the Amateur Football League, while Yusoff himself will head three key committees – Finance and Management, National Team Management, and the Emergency Committee.
Other appointments include Sivasundaram to lead the Technical and Development and Infrastructure committees; vice-president Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail as Competitions Committee chairman; and vice-president Datuk Saaran Nadarajah as Referees Committee chairman.
Vice-president Datuk Dollah Salleh and executive council member Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan have also been tasked with monitoring the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) and the Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD). — September 4, 2025
