KUALA LUMPUR – The sanctions imposed on Selangor FC (SFC) following a heated incident involving supporter misconduct during the second leg of the 2025-26 FA Cup quarter-final against Negeri Sembilan FC at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium in Kelana Jaya on October 29 have been described as harsh and excessive.
Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state government hopes the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will show further consideration once the club submits its appeal.
“A fine is one thing, but being forced to play without supporters is rather excessive. We hope FAM will look into the matter.
“At the state level, we have advised the club’s management to appeal and reassess the case.
“We have also instructed the club to review the decision carefully and, if there are any inaccurate allegations, they must be challenged,” Najwan told Scoop when contacted.
Najwan also reminded spectators to remain disciplined and maintain harmony in stadiums.
He said emotional or unruly behaviour from supporters during matches exposes the club to the risk of being penalised.
Earlier, it was reported that SFC had been ordered to play behind closed doors following the heated supporter incident during the FA Cup quarter-final second leg against Negeri Sembilan FC on October 29.
FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu was reported on October 15 as saying that the Red Giants will have to play in an empty stadium for the second leg of their FA Cup semi-final against Sabah FC on November 30, as well as their first home match in the same competition next season.
Baljit said Selangor, who reached the semi-finals with a 6-3 aggregate win, were also fined RM100,000 for repeated offences under Article 42, Paragraph 1 of the FAM Disciplinary Code. – November 17, 2025
