Terengganu FC denies FIFA’s unpaid wages claim and seeks clarity on reported transfer ban

KUALA LUMPUR – Terengganu FC (TFC) has refuted allegations by FIFA that the club failed to pay the wages of a former import player last season, a claim said to have triggered a three-window transfer ban.

Speaking to Scoop, Terengganu Football Association (TFA) president Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the club has yet to receive any official notification from the world governing body regarding the purported restrictions.

He said the association had already clarified the matter with FIFA last month and is now waiting for a formal response.

“We have explained the matter to FIFA and are still awaiting an official update,” Hishamuddin said when contacted.

TFC earlier dismissed the allegation, stressing that it had handled the issue professionally and in accordance with international football legal procedures.

Hishamuddin, who also chairs the state’s Youth, Sports and NGO Development Committee, added that the club should not face difficulties in registering new players during the second transfer window, which runs from January 5 to February 1 2026.

“God willing, there will be enough time for the club to make changes or sign new players before the window closes,” he said.

According to published reports, TFC was listed on the FIFA Registration Ban List from April 14, 2025, along with several other Malaysian clubs.

The sanction was linked to a wage dispute involving former import player Ivan Mamut, who reportedly claimed the club had failed to pay several months’ salary.

TFC maintains that the matter has since been resolved and is awaiting confirmation from FIFA. – December 4, 2025
