KUALA LUMPUR – Concerns over rising hooliganism in local football resurfaced after Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil became involved in a heated altercation with a supporter following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Melaka FC last night.
The incident, which occurred in the stadium, was widely shared on social media before NSFC officials intervened to calm the situation. Speaking to Scoop, Nidzam said the confrontation escalated when the individual hurled offensive remarks directed at his family, particularly his mother.
“I initially tried to speak to him, but a man made a very disrespectful comment about my family,” he said.
“Criticism about tactics and performance is part of football, but insults involving parents or children are unacceptable.” He added that the supporter approached him from behind and behaved in a manner he described as “not gentlemanly”, noting that such conduct was inappropriate, especially with children present in the vicinity.
On the match itself, Nidzam conceded that his team were punished for two soft goals — the first handed to Melaka too easily, and the second coming from a long ball that breached his defensive line. “We performed better in the second half, but they were able to defend their lead,” he said.
NSFC chief executive officer Faliq Firdaus also commented on the incident and the team’s overall showing, stating that improved emotional management was needed to avoid such confrontations.
“Emotional control must be better. We need to bounce back, without question,” he was quoted as saying on X. He stressed there were “no excuses” for the defeat, which he viewed as a reminder for the squad to respond quickly if they hoped to climb the league standings.
