KELANA JAYA — Former Harimau Malaya head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has been officially appointed as Technical Director of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) and the Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD).
The appointment was confirmed by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi following a Special Executive Committee (Exco) meeting at Wisma FAM earlier today.
Yusoff said Kim Swee’s appointment had received the approval of the National Sports Council (NSC), with the experienced coach having assumed the role on Dec 1 under a two-year contract.
“FAM had recommended Kim Swee for the position of technical director, and this was approved by NSC. He has officially taken up the role from Dec 1,” Yusoff said.
Commenting on the current status of NFDP and AMD, Yusoff said discussions are ongoing to secure full authority and clearer operational control, pending engagement with the newly appointed Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
“At the moment, we are still hoping to obtain full authority by holding discussions with the new minister. This is important to ensure smoother coordination and clearer decision-making for NFDP and AMD,” he said.
Yusoff added that FAM and NSC will also sit down to determine specific key performance indicators (KPIs) for Kim Swee, in line with the long-term objectives of the national football development pathway.
“The KPIs will be discussed and finalised together with NSC to ensure the programme is aligned with our development goals and expectations,” he said.
Kim Swee, who previously served as Harimau Malaya head coach and led Malaysia to success at the youth level (2011 SEA Games gold) , is expected to play a key role in strengthening the national development structure and improving the talent pipeline feeding into the national teams. – December 22, 2025
