KUALA LUMPUR — Selangor is about 80 per cent ready in terms of infrastructure for Sukma XXII Selangor 2026, with firm instructions issued for two key venues to be fully completed by April this year.
Speaking to Scoop, Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said he has instructed the Selangor Sports Council to ensure that the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Section 13, Shah Alam, and the Subang National Shooting Range are ready on schedule.
“Any more delay in getting these venues done is not good because the games will start in August,” he said, stressing the urgency of completing all upgrading works.
Najwan said Selangor is targeting full readiness by April, with infrastructure and sports facilities being upgraded across districts and local council areas.
He said the Sukma XXII Selangor 2026 torch relay is expected to begin in April after Hari Raya Aidilfitri and will pass through all nine districts in Selangor, covering town and city centres, community hubs and sports venues across the state until August.
“The relay will involve all nine districts in Selangor and run until August. It will be a historic moment for Selangor,” he said, adding that a detailed schedule would be announced in the coming months.

Najwan further said the Sukma secretariat would seek cooperation from local authorities, district offices, and higher education institutions to support the state-wide campaign.
He noted that Selangor last hosted Sukma in 1998, and Sukma 2026, scheduled from August 15 to 24, will mark the second time the state hosts the biennial multi-sport event.
On preparations, Najwan said e-sports competitions will be held at the Melawati Convention Centre in Taman Melawati, Ampang.
He added that Selangor may adopt a more flexible accommodation approach for contingents instead of relying solely on a centralised games village, citing traffic congestion as the main challenge.
“Our priority is to reduce travel time for athletes and manage traffic,” he said, adding that state contingents could stay in hotels or other accommodation at negotiated rates, while discussions are ongoing with higher education institutions to provide dormitory options for teams that prefer a village-style arrangement.
A total of 474 events across 37 sports will be contested at Sukma XXII Selangor 2026, while Para Sukma will feature 10 sports and nearly 300 events from Sept 5 to 14.
Overall, 52 venues across nine districts will be used as competition sites, involving 12 local authorities, public and private higher education institutions, government and private agencies, as well as the National Velodrome in Negri Sembilan. – January 8, 2026
