KUALA LUMPUR – Police are withholding the identities and affiliations of two suspects believed to be involved in the forgery of documents related to seven Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) heritage players, with investigations still underway.
Speaking to Scoop, the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) Director, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, confirmed that authorities are in the process of verifying the suspects’ details before any public disclosures.
“We cannot reveal any details at this stage as the verification process is still ongoing. Whether the suspects are affiliated with FAM or another party remains unclear at this time,” Rusdi explained.
“The public must be patient as we continue our investigation. We will issue further statements once there is progress on the case,” he added.
To date, the police have received 45 reports, including one filed by FAM, and have recorded statements from 43 witnesses. These witnesses include individuals from FAM, the National Registration Department (JPN), and other relevant public figures.
Preliminary findings indicate that the citizenship status of the seven Harimau Malaya heritage players was processed through legitimate and proper channels, fully in line with existing laws. However, the investigation has since shifted focus to potential fraud and document falsification under Section 420 of the Penal Code, particularly during the registration process and the submission of documents to FIFA.
Yesterday, Rusdi reiterated that those found guilty could face penalties including imprisonment of one to ten years, whipping, and a fine.
Earlier reports revealed that FAM had lodged a police report at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters concerning the alleged forgery.
FAM’s acting president, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, stated that the report was filed following recommendations from the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC), led by former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif, after the committee’s investigation was concluded in December last year.
FAM has affirmed its commitment to cooperating with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and upholding the ongoing legal process. – January 22, 2026
