KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor has expressed deep disappointment and frustration over the flare-burning incident that occurred at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge, allegedly involving supporters of Selangor FC on February 1.
As the patron of Selangor FC, Sultan Sharafuddin condemned such immoral behaviour, particularly the rising culture of hooliganism and gang activities among local football fans, especially those wearing the Selangor FC jersey.
The Sultan urged the police to identify the masterminds behind the incident, emphasising that if found guilty, those responsible should face the maximum punishment under the law.
“This serves as a lesson for other Selangor FC supporters to prevent such incidents from happening again,” His Majesty declared.
Yesterday, 33 Selangor FC supporters were remanded to assist with investigations into the chaos that occurred at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge, prior to the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Nerus.
Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin, stated that those arrested, aged between 17 and 43, were detained for drug possession, drug abuse, and disrupting public officials in the course of their duties.
In addition, Sultan Sharafuddin suggested that supporters of Selangor FC found guilty of causing disturbances should be banned from entering stadiums for any matches involving the team.
His Majesty also called on all Selangor FC supporters to exercise self-control and uphold the dignity of both the team and the state. – February 3, 2026
