KUALA LUMPUR — The National Sports Council of Malaysia (NSC) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) today formalised a strategic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in high-performance sport and related professional fields.

The MoU was signed by NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin and HKSI chief executive Tony Choi, and witnessed by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol. The agreement will be effective for a period of three years.

In a statement, the NSC said the MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration between the two institutions, reflecting their shared commitment to advancing sporting excellence through international cooperation.

“The partnership focuses on strengthening systems that support elite athlete performance, professional development and institutional capacity,” the council said.

Key areas of cooperation include collaborative research in sports science and sports medicine, the exchange of expertise and best practices in high-performance training and performance technology, as well as capacity-building initiatives involving athletes, coaches, support staff and technical officials.

The agreement also encourages joint participation in conferences, seminars and workshops to promote knowledge sharing and innovation in the high-performance sport ecosystem.

According to the NSC, all programmes and activities carried out under the MoU will be jointly planned and agreed upon by both parties to ensure alignment with objectives and readiness for effective implementation.

“The signing of this MoU marks an important milestone in NSC’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships. It positions both NSC and HKSI to leverage their respective strengths, share expertise and jointly contribute to the long-term development of elite sport ecosystems in Malaysia and Hong Kong,” it said.

Through the collaboration, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainable professional growth in sport. – February 10, 2026
