KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor FC are poised to join forces in a decisive push to tackle the long-standing financial troubles that have plagued the Malaysian League (M-League), signalling a rare moment of unity among top-flight clubs.

JDT chief executive officer Luis Garcia has expressed the club’s readiness to sit down with all M-League teams and key stakeholders to scrutinise and refine a proposed solution put forward by Selangor FC CEO Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon.

Garcia said JDT were intrigued by Johan’s claim of having a viable formula to address the league’s persistent financial instability, and believes an inclusive, industry-wide discussion is urgently needed.

“I am interested in Johan’s recent statement that he has a solution to the financial problems within the M-League.

“I believe we should convene a discussion involving all teams so we can properly understand the ideas he intends to present,” Garcia said in a statement today.

Drawing on his experience working within elite international organisations, Garcia stressed that he is keen to examine Johan’s proposal in detail, particularly given the latter’s exposure to both domestic and international football environments.

“I have had the privilege of competing at the highest international level and working with world-class organisations.

“That is why I am eager to hear what solutions Johan can offer based on his experience and knowledge. I hope this discussion with all clubs can take place in the near future,” he added.

The call for collective dialogue comes amid mounting concern over the financial health of the M-League, with several clubs continuing to grapple with delayed salary payments to players and staff, alongside escalating operational costs.

Previously, Johan had urged for serious engagement among stakeholders, including the possibility of an immediate roundtable session to confront the crisis head-on.

Negeri Sembilan FC have since backed the proposal, underlining the growing consensus that a unified approach is needed to restore stability to Malaysian football. – April 8, 2026
