KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) remarkable 109-match unbeaten streak has drawn praise from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, who congratulated the Malaysian champions after they achieved a new world record.
Leverkusen paid tribute to the Southern Tigers in a short post on X, describing the feat as an “amazing record”.
“An amazing record, congratulations to them,” the German club said.

JDT reached the milestone after defeating Kuching City FC 3-0 in the Charity Shield at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 108 unbeaten matches held by Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas.
The historic victory extended JDT’s unbeaten streak to 109 matches, further cementing their status as the dominant force in Malaysian football.
Leverkusen themselves are familiar with the challenge of maintaining an unbeaten run. Under former manager Xabi Alonso, the German side secured the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season without suffering a league defeat.
However, their 35-match unbeaten league run came to an end after a 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig on Aug 31, 2024.
JDT’s record-breaking achievement has since attracted international attention, with several overseas media outlets highlighting the Southern Tigers’ feat following their victory at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
The win over Kuching City also saw JDT claim their ninth consecutive Charity Shield title while giving Xisco Muñoz’s side a winning start to their Super League campaign with three points. – August 23, 2026
