KUALA LUMPUR — The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is 90% ready for the return of Formula 1, with upgrading and refurbishment works progressing according to schedule ahead of the Oct 2-4 event.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari said various ministries and agencies were also working closely to ensure preparations, including protocol, immigration and security arrangements, were in place for the relocated Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Bahrain Grand Prix will be held at SIC, with practice and qualifying sessions scheduled for Oct 2 and 3, followed by the main race on Oct 4.
“For the F1 event, we have already held discussions with all the committees that have been formed. This involves not only my ministry but also other ministries, covering protocol, immigration, security and other aspects,” he told reporters at a press conference in Sungai Petani, Kedahtoday.
Taufiq said preparations were progressing as planned and expressed hope that the event would run smoothly.
“Everything is in proper order. We pray that everything will run smoothly,” he said.
The Sepang event is part of the 2026 Formula 1 calendar and marks the return of F1 action to Malaysia. – September 28, 2026
