KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s sports ecosystem is set for a major transformation following a key RM460 million allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim under Budget 2027.
The funding package targets every level of athlete development—spanning high-performance sports, para-athletes, deaf sports, facility maintenance, and the flagship Road to Gold (RTG) program.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) welcomed the allocation, emphasizing its role in ensuring sustainable, long-term athletic success.
“KBS appreciates the allocation of RM460 million for the development of national sports, covering high-performance sports development, the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, Para athlete development, deaf athletes and sports facility maintenance,” the ministry said in a statement.
“This allocation is important for strengthening the athlete development ecosystem comprehensively and continuously,” the statement added.
In addition to core sports development, KBS noted that RM240 million has been earmarked specifically for host preparations ahead of the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.
The ministry also highlighted a RM30 million Sports Matching Grant designed to empower sports bodies, clubs, and NGOs to drive high-performance events nationwide.
Beyond athletics, Budget 2027 delivers direct incentives for young Malaysians, including the new Budi Belia program.
“In the youth development agenda, the introduction of the Budi Belia programme through the provision of a RM100 e-wallet incentive to young people who complete volunteer activities is a step to encourage active youth involvement in community development,” said the statement.
The ministry also pointed to the RM8 billion cross-ministerial allocation for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which will align with the Youth and Sports Skills Training Institute (ILKBS) to sharpen career prospects and employability for Malaysian youth.
KBS reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate across sectors to ensure these budget deliverables directly benefit athletes, youth, and the broader community. – October 10, 2026
