KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has rewarded the national men’s hockey squad, the Speedy Tigers, with a total of RM160,000 in incentives for winning the silver medal at the recent Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
In a statement today, MHC said the incentives were presented to 20 players and eight team officials at a dinner held in their honour here last night.
MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the team’s third Asian Games silver medal was the result of collective effort, requiring commitment, discipline, hard work and unwavering sacrifice from everyone involved.
He also expressed pride in the Speedy Tigers’ achievement, which demonstrated Malaysia’s ability to compete at the highest level, describing the silver medal as a significant milestone for Malaysian hockey.
“This silver medal is a source of pride for Malaysia and the entire hockey fraternity. It did not come easily, but was the result of the hard work, discipline and sacrifices made by every player, the coaching staff and support personnel in carrying the nation’s challenge,” he said.
Malaysia’s bid for gold at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games fell short when they lost 1-5 to defending champions India in the final at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Oct 3.
The Speedy Tigers, coached by Brendon Carolan, will now turn their attention to two international tournaments – the Asian Champions Trophy in Punjab, India, from Oct 27 to Nov 5, followed by the 2026 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh from Nov 20 to 28. – October 14, 2026
