KUALA LUMPUR – Professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia is relieved that progress has finally been made in his long-running management dispute involving his family, with all parties agreeing to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on October 31.
His lawyer, Ahmad Zayd Ahmad Zuber of Messrs Faisal & Zayd, told Scoop that the agreement had eased his client’s concerns after months of uncertainty surrounding LZJ Management Sdn Bhd.
“I would prefer the word ‘relief’. I think relief would be the right word. He is relieved that everything has been settled amicably for now and looks forward to the EGM taking place,” Ahmad Zayd said when contacted.
Scoop reported earlier today that the parties had reached an amicable agreement at the Kuala Lumpur High Court through mediation, paving the way for the meeting to proceed on the scheduled date.
However, Ahmad Zayd cautioned against interpreting the agreement as a resolution of the entire dispute, saying the EGM would provide an opportunity for the parties to discuss and decide on the outstanding issues.
“Not to say that the dispute has been settled. Basically, what happened this morning is that, through the court’s mediation process, the parties have more or less reached a consensus for an EGM to be held.
“So, the EGM will take place on October 31. Anything that needs to be discussed and agreed upon will be discussed and agreed upon between the parties during the EGM,” he said.
The lawyer said the matter had been at a standstill since December last year, when an earlier attempt to convene the meeting failed because the required quorum was not met.
“Everything had been stuck since December, when he first attempted to convene the meeting. So, finally, after 10 months, things have moved forward.
“The parties can now look forward to the EGM and its outcome. Hopefully, everything will go well,” he said.
Ahmad Zayd added that the court had allowed an injunction sought by Zii Jia to remain in force until the EGM, as the opposing parties did not object to it.
He explained that the earlier meeting could not proceed because the company’s quorum requirements had not been fulfilled.
“The issue was that, for an EGM to be held, the quorum had to comprise at least two out of the three directors. That was the problem we faced earlier.
“Because the other director or shareholder did not turn up, the EGM could not proceed. Now, all the relevant parties have agreed to attend the EGM. So, I think we have dealt with the quorum issue,” he said.
While confirming that the relevant parties were expected to attend on October 31, Ahmad Zayd declined to elaborate on the agenda, saying the discussions would take place in accordance with the applicable requirements.
“As agreed by the parties, the EGM will be held in accordance with the applicable requirements. The quorum requirements and voting will be conducted in accordance with the relevant rules, so everything will basically be fair to all parties.
“Whatever is going to be discussed, I cannot disclose that. I have no instructions to disclose what will be discussed, but certain specific matters will be discussed during the EGM,” he said.
Asked whether Zii Jia’s 90 per cent shareholding in the company would be a key issue, Ahmad Zayd maintained that his client had always retained control.
“He has always had control,” he said, adding that the outcome would become clearer after the meeting.
“As for the outcome of the EGM, you will have to check with Zii Jia after October 31,” he added.
The dispute centres on LZJ Management, which oversees aspects of the independent shuttler’s professional badminton career.
In an originating summons filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 2, Zii Jia named the company, his father Lee Chee Hin, his sister Lee Zii Yii and his younger brother Lee Tao as respondents.
Court documents sighted by Scoop show that Zii Jia claims to hold 90 per cent of the company’s shares, while Zii Yii owns nine per cent and Tao holds the remaining one per cent.
Chee Hin and Zii Yii are directors of the company, with Zii Yii also managing her brother’s professional badminton career.
Zii Jia sought a court order to convene an EGM after an earlier attempt on December 22, 2025, failed due to the absence of the required quorum.
He also applied for an interim injunction to prevent Chee Hin and Zii Yii from approving certain financial benefits for themselves beyond their monthly salaries. The application also sought restrictions on specified corporate decisions while the legal proceedings were ongoing.
The respondents opposed the application, with Chee Hin disputing the need for court intervention and maintaining that the company had continued to manage matters relating to his son’s professional badminton career.
The agreement to hold the EGM represents progress in the dispute, but the meeting’s outcome and the company’s future management arrangements remain unresolved.
The focus now shifts to October 31, when the parties are expected to discuss the outstanding matters and determine the next steps for LZJ Management. – October 20, 2026
