Denmark Open: Tang Jie-Ee Wei march on to second round

KUALA LUMPUR – The national mixed doubles pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei booked a spot in the second round of the Denmark Open after defeating the world ranked number 23 pair of Mathias Thyrri and Amalie Magelund of Denmark in the first round.

The world number nine Malaysians had a little scare in the second set against the Danes but rallied to win the match 21-15, 23-21 at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense.

They will take on the winner of the match between the tournament’s fifth seeds, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand, and Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith of England in the second round tomorrow.

Independent women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei faced a mountain of a challenge going up against the world number five, He Bing Jiao from China.

The world number 30 did her best but fell to a 21-11, 21-10 defeat in 29 minutes.

She will meet the winner of the clash between Line Kjærsfeldt from Denmark and Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the next round. – October 18, 2023
